Breakaway Training is provided as part of the PMVA module to allow a person to safely breakaway or disengage from an actual or potential physically violent altercation. However, this training can be provided as a separate course for non-clinical staff that may not require restraint training but have access to potentially hostile domains. Students in this regard are educated in the legislative guidelines that govern the use of physical force and provided with physical training as part of the course syllabus. This is a one day course.
Conflict Management is provided as part of the PMVA module. However, this Conflict Management can be provided as a separate course to enhance learning and education. Conflict Management Training incorporates evidence based support to recognise emotional states, triggers, escalation, and preventing violent outcomes. Reviews of supporting models are used to enhance learning and students are introduced to Safe Wards and Decision Making Models. This part of the course involves practical learning and team work exercises. This is a one day course.
Conflict Management and PMVA are completed over a two day course. The first day completes Conflict Management Training and incorporates evidence based support to recognise emotional states, triggers, escalation, and preventing violent outcomes. Reviews of supporting models are used to enhance learning and students are introduced to Safe Wards and Decision Making Models. This part of the course involves practical learning and team work exercises.
The second day involves a presentation and discussion regarding the Legislation that governs the Use of Force. Training continues with Safe Practical Breakaway and Physical Restraint Techniques, including role playing and pressure training. Students are encouraged to discuss and reflect issues, and are continually supported and assessed throughout. Following this on the same day, debriefs and evaluations of the course are completed.
